What document formats are accepted?

You can send your documents as a jpg/jpeg/png image, or as a PDF. Scans/photos do not need to be cropped or retouched: they are detected automatically when checking the validity of the Romanian ID card. It is possible to send the front and back of the part on the same scan and in any order (front first and back below, or vice versa): they will be sorted and the recognition will be done without any problem. The same goes for tilting: the scans can be a little tilted / badly oriented: they will be well recognized by our service!

How does the Romanian ID card validity check work?

An automatic reading zone, or optical reading zone, is an area, on an official document, reserved for the reading, identification and validation of this document. Thus, documents such as passports, national identity cards, residence permits, driving licences can or must include, depending on the country and the version of the documents, an optical reading zone. It is located in the lower part of identity documents: it contains all the information on the document with security keys to verify its authenticity and the fact that it has not been modified. The information found in it varies depending on the type of document.

What data is extracted from a Romanian ID card MRZ tape?

The data extracted from the Romanian ID Card MRZ tape are as follows:

• Front row:

1. Document Type: 2 characters, code indicating the type of document, represented by the letters “ID”.
2. Issuing Country : 3 characters, the ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code of the issuing country, for Romania it is “ROU”.
3. Name : name of the holder followed by two chevrons “<<“
4. Given names : the holder’s first name(s), separated by a chevron “<“
5. End of line : ” < ” to complete the line.

• Second line:

1. Document number : 8 characters, document number starting with two letters and followed by a separating chevron “<“
2. Control key : 1 character, document number control key.
3. Nationality : 3 characters, ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code of the holder’s nationality, for Romania it is “ROU”.
4. Date of birth : 6 digits, date of birth of the holder in YYMMDD format.
5. Control key: 1 character, control key for date of birth.
6. Gender : 1 character, “M” for men, “F” for women.
7. Expiration date : 6 digits, expiration date of the document in YYMMDD format.
8. Control key : 1 character, control key for the expiration date of the document.
9. Personal number : 7 characters, personal number of the holder.
10. Control key : 1 character, control key for the entire line 2.

Am I charged if the information is not retrieved correctly from the Romanian ID Card validity check?

The answer is no! Only a correctly recognized document is billable! If the attachment is not detected or incorrectly detected, you are not charged: only a successful scan is deducted from your verification credits.
