Which document formats are accepted?
You can send your documents as jpg / jpeg / png images or as PDFs.
Scans/photos do not need to be cropped or edited: they are detected automatically.
It is possible to send the front with the MRZ strip or the two relevant pages of the passport: the Estonian passport MRZ strip will be correctly detected and recognition will be done without any problem.
The same applies to tilt: scans can be slightly tilted/misaligned and will still be recognized well by our service!

The answer is no! Only a correctly recognized document is billable!

How does Estonian passport validity verification work?
An automatic reading zone, or optical reading zone, is an area on an official document reserved for reading, identification, and validation of the document.
Thus, documents such as passports, national identity cards, residence permits, driving licenses may or must have, depending on the country and document versions, an optical reading zone.
It is located at the bottom of identity documents: it contains all the information present on the document with security keys allowing verification of their authenticity and that they have not been modified.
The information found varies according to the type of document.
How is the Estonian passport MRZ strip composed?
Passports have two lines of text, each containing alphanumeric characters.
Why use this method to detect fraud?
The data found there are passport data protected by multiple validation keys, making their modification difficult. It is therefore one of the verification tools used by airport aviation security to ensure that identity documents have not been forged.
What data is extracted from the Estonian passport MRZ line?
The data extracted from the MRZ strip are as follows:
- First line:
- Document Type: A code indicating the type of document, represented by the letter “P”.
- Type: a character for countries that distinguish between types of passports.
- Country Code: Issuing country code of 3 characters.
- Name and Given Names: Name and first name of the person separated by two “<”, then completed by “<”.
- Second line:
- Document Number: 9 alphanumeric characters.
- Check Digit: 1 numeric character, check digit of the document number.
- Nationality: 3 characters indicating nationality according to ISO 3166-1 alpha-3.
- Date of Birth: 6 numeric characters (year in two digits, month and day in YYMMDD format).
- Check Digit: 1 numeric character, check digit of the date of birth.
- Sex: 1 character, “M” for male, “F” for female.
- Expiration Date: 6 numeric characters (year in two digits, month and day in YYMMDD format).
- Check Digit: 1 numeric character, check digit of the expiration date.
- Personal Number: 14 alphanumeric characters, used by some countries.
- Check Digit: 1 numeric character, check digit of the personal number (or “<” if only chevrons).
- Check Digit: 1 numeric character, overall check digit.
Personal Data
You can delete all data once the report has been downloaded: simply delete the analysis from the web interface history !
Data is also automatically deleted after 3 months.
