How does the MRZ online Tunisian passport stripe reader work?

After validation of your purchase, you will receive an email with the credentials to connect to our identity web application (check in spam a few minutes after purchase if you have not received the activation email).

What document formats are accepted?

You can send your documents as jpg / jpeg / png images, or as PDF files.

Scans/photos don’t need to be cropped or retouched: they’re detected automatically.

It is possible to send the front page with the MRZ strip, or both pages of the passport concerned: the Tunisian passport MRZ strip will be correctly detected and recognition will be trouble-free.

The same goes for inclination: scans may be a little tilted/misaligned: they will be recognized by our service!

What is the MRZ Tunisian Passport Strip (Machine Readable Zone)?

A machine-readable zone, or machine-readable zone, is an area on an official document reserved for reading, identifying and validating the document.

Documents such as passports, national identity cards, residence permits and driving licenses can or must include an optical reading zone, depending on the country and the document version.

It is located at the bottom of identity documents: it contains all the information on the document, with security keys to check that it is authentic and has not been altered.

The information it contains varies according to the type of document.

How is the MRZ Tunisian passport strip/line constituted?

Like all passports, British passports have two lines of text, each containing alphanumeric characters.

Why use this method to detect fraud?

The data found there is passport data protected by multiple validation keys, making it difficult to modify them. It is therefore one of the verification tools used by airport aviation security to ensure that identity documents have not been falsified.

What data is extracted from the MRZ Tunisian passport line?

The data extracted from the MRZ band are as follows:

• Front row:

1. Document Type: A code indicating the type of document, represented by the letter “P”.
2. Type: one character for countries that distinguish between passport types.
3. Country code : 3-character code for the issuing country.
4. Last name and first name : Last name and first name of the person separated by two “<“, then completed by “<“.

• Second line:

1. Document number : 9 alpha-numeric characters.
2. Control key : 1 numeric character, document number control key.
3. Nationality: 3 characters indicating nationality according to ISO 3166-1 alpha-3.
4. Date of birth: 6 numeric characters (two-digit year, month and day in YYMMDD format).
5. Control key : 1 numeric character, control key for date of birth.
6. Gender : 1 character, “M” for male, “F” for female.
7. Expiry date: 6 numeric characters (two-digit year, month and day in YYMMDD format).
8. Control key : 1 numeric character, expiry date control key.
9. Personal number: 14 alphanumeric characters, used by some countries.
10. Control key : 1 numeric character, personal number control key (or “<” if chevrons only).
11. Control key : 1 numeric character, global control key.

Am I charged if the Tunisian passport MRZ information is not extracted correctly from the document?

The answer is no! Only a document that has been correctly recognized is billable!

If the attachment is not detected or is detected incorrectly, you will not be billed: only a successful analysis will be deducted from your verification credits.

Personal data

You can delete all data once the report has been downloaded: simply delete the analysis from the web interface history!

Data is also automatically deleted after 3 months.
