What document formats are accepted?

You can send your documents as a jpg/jpeg/png image, or as a PDF. Scans/photos do not need to be cropped or retouched: they are detected automatically. It is possible to send the front with MRZ strip or the two relevant passport pages: the MRZ passport strip will be detected and recognition will be carried out without any problems. The same goes for tilting: the scans can be a little tilted / badly oriented: they will be well recognized by our service! Example:

What is the MRZ passport band (Machine Readable Zone)?

An automatic reading zone, or optical reading zone, is an area, on an official document, reserved for the reading, identification and validation of this document. Thus, documents such as passports, French national identity cards, residence permits, driving licences can or must include, depending on the country and the version of the documents, an optical reading zone. It is located in the lower part of identity documents: it contains all the information on the document with security keys to verify its authenticity and the fact that it has not been modified. The information found in it varies depending on the type of document.

What makes up the MRZ passport belt/line?

Why use this method to detect fraud?

The data found there is the card data protected by multiple validation keys, making it difficult to modify them. It is therefore one of the verification tools used by airport aviation security to ensure that identity documents have not been falsified.

What data is extracted from the MRZ passport line?

The data extracted from the MRZ band are as follows:

• Front row:

1. Document Type: A code indicating the type of document, represented by the letter “P”.
2. Type: one character for countries that distinguish between passport types.
3. Country code : 3-character code for the issuing country.
4. Last name and first name : Last name and first name of the person separated by two “<“, then completed by “<“.

• Second line:

1. Document number : 9 alpha-numeric characters.
2. Control key : 1 numeric character, document number control key.
3. Nationality: 3 characters indicating nationality according to ISO 3166-1 alpha-3.
4. Date of birth: 6 numeric characters (two-digit year, month and day in YYMMDD format).
5. Control key : 1 numeric character, control key for date of birth.
6. Gender : 1 character, “M” for male, “F” for female.
7. Expiry date: 6 numeric characters (two-digit year, month and day in YYMMDD format).
8. Control key : 1 numeric character, expiry date control key.
9. Personal number: 14 alphanumeric characters, used by some countries.
10. Control key : 1 numeric character, personal number control key (or “<” if chevrons only).
11. Control key : 1 numeric character, global control key.

Will I be charged if the MRZ passport information is not correctly extracted from the document?

The answer is no! Only a document that has been correctly recognized is billable! If the attachment is not detected or incorrectly detected, you are not charged: only a successful scan is deducted from your verification credits.
